Terrorists could use internet to launch nuclear attack: report

July 28, 2009

Terrorists groups could soon use the internet to help set off a devastating nuclear attack, according to new research.

The claims come in a study commissioned by the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (ICNND), which suggests that under the right circumstances, terrorists could break into computer systems and launch an attack on a nuclear state – triggering a catastrophic chain of events that would have a global impact.

Without better protection of computer and information systems, the paper suggests, governments around the world are leaving open the possibility that a well-coordinated cyberwar could quickly elevate to nuclear levels.

Coming Soon To a City Near You

May 27, 2009

In November of 2008, millions of American voters went to the polls and voted for “change.” Many are beginning to realize that very little has actually changed. When those who run the state apparatus begin to realize a lack of confidence in their abilities to control, drastic measures are often employed.

For two consecutive election cycles, 2006 and 2008, the American electorate voted against the illegal, immoral wars of the Bush administration. Now that we have a Bush clone in a darker skin tone, no one seems to care about the killing, maiming and torturing. To the hypocritical voters in America, the crime is irrelevant, it only matters whose criminal is pulling the trigger.

The “change” since the election, as I see it, is: a much larger national debt, ever expanding wars in the Middle East, a greater threat to personal liberty, a huge increase in gun sales, a national shortage of ammo, and rapidly increasing fuel prices. Is that the “change” Americans voted for?

Yet Another Bogus ‘Terror’ Plot

May 27, 2009

By the now, it’s maddeningly familiar. A scary terrorist plot is announced. Then it’s revealed that the suspects are a hapless bunch of ne’er-do-wells or run-of-the-mill thugs without the slightest connection to any terrorists at all, never mind to Al Qaeda. Finally, the last piece of the puzzle: the entire plot is revealed to have been cooked up by a scummy government agent-provocateur.

I’ve seen this movie before.

Like Miami 7, New York Terror Plot Funded And Uncovered By The FBI

May 22, 2009

At the top of today’s CBS Early Show, co-host Maggie Rodriguez reported:

“We know that they had been working with an FBI informant for quite awhile. And they purchased inactive missiles and inert C-4 explosives from them. I wonder where they got the money. Who’s funding these things?…Would you say that home-grown terrorists are a bigger threat now to us than foreign terrorists?”

Again, an FBI informant led these “home-grown” “Al-Qaeda-Wanna-Be” losers to purchase explosives and probably provided the money and the expertise, as they did in the Miami Seven “terror plot” to blow-up the Sears Tower.

In other words, these “terror cells” have been created, engineered and funded by the FBI.

Obama Is Said to Consider Preventive Detention Plan

May 21, 2009

President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a “preventive detention” system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.

May 19, 2009

The United States announced Monday that it is listing Revolutionary Struggle as a foreign terrorist organization after the Greek leftist group attacked US diplomatic and business interests.

The State Department, completing a five-year review of radical groups on April 22, also said it removed another Greek group, Revolutionary Nuclei (RN), from a US blacklist, but continued to treat November 17 as a terrorist group.

Fight for Oil: 100 Years in the Middle East

May 16, 2009

The history of the race for oil in the Middle East, and the conflict is caused between world powers in the 20th century, is explored in this documentary.

As the race for oil began Britain, Russia, The USA, Germany and France all began to lay claim to the land in the Middle East, bidding to control the natural resources and related wealth it provided.

Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi gives her thoughts on the former Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammed Mossadegh, and his fight for independence from the world powers.

Britain’s influence on Iran and the Middle East, through the creation of monarchies, armies and parliaments, is explored, as well as the impact of its withdrawal from the region.

This is part of a series focusing on the history of oil and the conflicts it has caused, many of which continue today.

Torture is a Form of Terrorism

May 16, 2009

An article today in Der Spiegel describes a study on the use of torture over the last couple of thousand years:

A new book, [“Extreme Violence in the Visuals and Texts of Antiquity”] by Martin Zimmerman, a professor of ancient history in Munich, looks at current research into the kinds of violence that inspired “loathing, dread, horror and disgust.”

In the ancient Far East, where there were large states peopled by many different ethnicities, leaders demonstrated their might by inventing ingenious new tortures and agonizing methods of execution — as a way to keep the population obedient…The issue of state-sanctioned torture to achieve political goals is still a current one.

Preparing for years in Afghanistan

April 30, 2009

The Pentagon’s senior military leaders are worried that the security situation in Afghanistan is stalemated or deteriorating, and now are preparing a far-reaching plan that would prepare the U.S. military for a war that could last three to five more years, officials said.

The effort, which is being coordinated by the Joint Staff and is still in its early stages, is designed to create an experienced cadre of officers and senior enlisted soldiers, who would rotate between assignments in Afghanistan and at their home stations until the end of hostilities.

Osama Bin Laden Believed Dead By Pak Intel: Zardari

April 29, 2009

Pakistan’s president said Monday his intelligence agencies believe Osama bin Laden may be dead, but he added there is no proof. Other Pakistani officials and a U.S. counterterrorism official said they thought the al-Qaida chief is alive. U.S. officials said bin Laden is most likely hiding in the mountains along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, in particular the lawless tribal regions.

“We continue to believe that bin Laden is alive,” said the U.S. official, who declined to be named because he was not authorized to discuss the matter on the record.
